So buying a lens or two that are still good to cover some of the types of shots they want to get, may be a good alternative to going without. For me to save to get a great new lens may take me 6 months minimum and up to a couple years depending on the price. I'm saving for the D600 and that will take at least a couple years unless I find some quicker way to come up with the money for it.
