Is the Amazon lens a Nikon USA approved? Could it be grey ?

It's possible. If it's sold by Amazon it will be a US lens. If it's from one of the Marketplace sellers it could be US or grey. I would ask if buying from the Marketplace.

I ordered the 28-300 lens from best buy feb. 12 or13, it came in yesterday and they honored the sale
so I got $150 back on the purchase. I'm happy about that, I was afraid they would not
honor the sale.
