Thanks to all! - we were "upstate" and the photo was taken near the sidewalk at the east rim of the PA grand canyon. I had to google if caterpillars/butterfly's were in fact Insects thankfully they are, while doing that I learned of the "hairs" on my particular species were its defense mechanism. Our challenges can be so educational :)
