Have been considering switching out my 50 1.8 D for a 50 1.8 G, but i am also considering the Voightlander 58mm 1.4. Anyone out there familiar with these lenses.?. i understand they are incredibly sharp, which is what I am looking for. I can make blurry images on my own and do not need any help from my lens. Or am i being overly picky.

They've been around for a while. ~$375 used market if you need the f1.4 and don't mind mf.

at the max, id sell the 1.8d and get the 1.8g because of the circular bokeh of the 1.8g vs the 7 straight blades of the 1.8d. also sharper to the corners. but slower AF speed in the G by a bit. sell your 1.8d and add the extra for the G.

Id suggest you try working with your 1.8d in manual focus for an hour or so and see you get along with that first.

I've got both - 1.8D and 1.8G ("G" was obtained with the D5100, and later I came upon an incredibly cheap, mint "D"). Both are very sharp and reasonably good bokeh-wise. I strongly doubt that you're gonna benefit from buying (much expensive) Voightlander...

I still have given this much thought and I have now added the Nikon 60d and g to the mix. these lenses are also quite sharp and carry the near same focal length of the Voightlander at about the same price and also allow for closer focusing and the advantage of AF if I need it. What i really need is a dealer who has these lenses that i might try them on my camera.
