Vintage OM lens on D7000

Hi all,

having upgraded from Oly to Nikon, I have still got an old OM 50 1.8 lens which is a beautiful manual walk-around and portrait lens. The problem with fitting these onto a D body is the focusing to infinity, however on ebay there now seems to be adapters WITHOUT an additional lens for infinity focus. Here an example:

Olympus OM Lens to Nikon F Camera Mount Adapter D4 D90 D600 D800 D3200 D7100 | eBay

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of adapter?

Regards
Martin

I still have my old Olympus OM2n and a bunch of glass. My favorite lens in the group is a 50 1.4. I have looked at this adapter several times and keep seeing how you have to remove the mount on the lens and then install the Roxsen one to the lens. I have just been leery of tying it. If you get it let me know how it works.

I sure don't know the answer to the question, but looking at that adapter it seems as though you will not be able to meter with that lens attached to the camera.

With used Nikon 50mm f1.8D lenses going cheap why not buy one of those instead? I just bought one for $85.

Thanks for your feedback. I really dont want to part with my om lens. They are renowned for being extremely sharp and my one is in mint condition. There is another option Leica & Pentax & Nikon | Leitax which is a spanish company making special adapters but the price is putting me off. Oh well maybe ill take the plunge on a rainy day and try the asian version.

The problem with this is that the register distance on an OM lens is 46 and the register distance for F mount is 46.5. The general rule of thumb is that you can mount a lens with a longer register distance on a body with a smaller register difference with the proper adapter. I shoot both Olympus and Nikon and have a lot of OM mount lenses. The best thing to do with them is to pick up a micro four thirds camera with the OM adapter to use them on. I am not sure I would go to all of the trouble to mount an OM 50mm f/1.8 to your Nikon camera. Even though Olympus has a good reputation for glass this lens is still basically a kit lens. You will be much happier with the Nikon 50mm f/1.8, or the f/1.4 if you can afford it. Also keep in mind that the 50mm had a equivelent FOV of 100mm on a four thirds camera but will have an eFOV of 75mm on a Nikon APS-C camera or 50mm on a Nikon FF camera.

apparently with this mount it is possible to focus to infinity. it require the removal of the om bayonett from the lens and replacing with this one. it is the same principle as with the Leitax mounts only 80% cheaper! In any case, for 12 euros im willing to be a guinea pig for the nikonites

Ill let you know how it goes.

Yes, it basically just shortens the lens by .5mm. Just be careful about anything protruding from the back of the lens that it doesn't protrude too far into the mirror box. I don't think you will have problems with that lens but there are some lens/body combinations that can actually end up damaging the camera.

so, I received the adapter in the mail today. I first removed the original mount from the OM lens by loosening the 3 fixing screws and replaced with the roxsen adapter. I then offered the lens up to the d7k body, it located INTO the body without any problem, but would then not rotate and lock, even using more than normal amount of force. I certainly am not going to risk damage to the camera for the sake of this 10 euro adapter. I therefore conclude that the adapter has not worked as advertised and have now claimed with the Ebay seller roxsen. Waiting for a response.

UPDATE: the adapter appears to be defective. After a long discussion with the seller, which ultimately had to be sorted out by ebay customer care, I got a full refund.
Facit: try these roxsen adapters for om to Nikon f at your own risk. If I decide to continue down this adaption route ill go for the leitax adapter, money better spent I think.
