viewing jpegs on an LG smart TV (42LF5800)

I tried to help a friend that just bought that TV. He can only view jpegs through a HDMI cable that runs from his computer. We tried a USB key and through his home network using the Plex software. We could see the thumbnails of images, but the TV just won't show the full screen image.

Does anyone on this forum have had such a problem on an LG, and does anyone have a suggestion to offer to resolve this annoying bug? I tried to find a solution from the LG support website but it's very thin and nothing even comes close to explain what should be done for this to work.

Could it be that the HDMI interface on the TV is down-sampling the high res image, where the other two methods present an image that's resolution is too large for the TV to display?

Since you mentioned the TV does see the thumbnails when using USB or Plex, that's by first thought on problem areas...

I don't know if he saw the thumbnails with the USB. I was there for about 2 hours this afternoon just trying to get the "Plex" software loaded so the TV could see his PC. Then we were able to see his picture folders and thumbnails, but as soon as we tried to view a picture, it stalled and we got nowhere. But with the HDMI cable, he can view all the pics... Now this makes wonder if it could be his router that is too slow or too loaded to perform adequately.

I thought that TVs were able to down-sample jpegs. Was I wrong? I know that I can see full sized jpegs on my Panasonic.

I have a LG TV and just did a few tests with it,

(These screen shots were taken with the LG app on my android phone)

1st test with a usb memory stick, I press input on the TV, and selected the usb stick, then as you can see, I can see the thumbnails, then I can select which one I want to look at.

This second test is from the PC (pressed print screen to copy the screen)

The TV is connected to the same hub as the PC (by ethernet cable)

All I did here was click on the network icon, as you can see the TV is shown in the network

Then if you right click on a picture and select cast to device,

You can even select 100 pictures if you wish, and it will play on the TV
