I know this because I've shot many wild animal and other photos with it and always used the 3x3 grid.  Nikon says that the ON/OFF switch turns on the Framing Grid which gives the user the ability to choose which grid you want to use but they are not clear in providing instructions as to what the methodology is to access the available grids.  I have seen posts from others with a D7500 who've had the 3x3 grid and it eventually disappeared as well.  Nikon still has my camera and when it is returned, I am going to diligently search every menu item and button until I find the "trigger" to release the other grid choices.  Other than that, my only choice is to retrain myself using the Framing Grid.  Thanks for your comment.</p></blockquote><p></p>
