Vertical Grip on 5100 ..Battery Question...

I use a D5100 vertical grip on my D3200 and have one original and one non coded battery...

Now I saw an add today for a grip basically saying you cannot use two coded (ie genuine) batteries in the grip...

Any one using a grip with two coded batteries?

I have the grip on my 5100 with 2 coded batteries, it works fine. Occasionally after a charge it will give an indicator of Bad Battery (cannot remember the exact message) and I just pull the closest battery and then re-install and power up.

No other issues at all.. Again, that is running it on my 5100 though.

I have heard you can use one of each and have not tried that, also never heard you could not use 2 genuines..

Well the add seemed to imply that you got false battery indication ..battery chips causing cross communication I guess ..maybe you proved it ....maybe its cheaper for them to suplly one of each/avoid any problem. Yes you can use one of each BUT must put the genuine in first ...I have also found using 2x nikon flash on one ext lead will not work as there computers interact..two YNs no problem. sodding computer chips everywhere...!!!

Been using the chipped coldboot method and then 2x aftermarket batteries, recharging them one at a time to avoid total loss of power. That said, I haven't used my chipped official one for quite a few weeks.
