I don't use them indoors for obvious reasons. I use UV filters when at a beach or other dusty type venue. Again...some do, some don't. It's really a personal thing. Some use a filter for protection purposes. What would you rather have to replace.....a UV filter, or an expensive lens? Your choice really.And your 18-105 lens takes a 67mm filter. Look on the inside of your lens cap.
