How about using D type lens on D3100, I know it won't autofocus.
I hope it will help me in practicing manual focussing.
And it is also less then half the price of G type lens
I am considering it hoping , i will definitely buy a better camera in future, it will autofocus on that
confused to buy it according to my assumptions, or put money in G type lens

the 1.8D is a sharp lens, not the smoothest focus ring, but works fine, and you will be able to get fine images from it. If you buy used such as a D90, D300, D700 or new such as D600, D800, then your investment can move right to autofocus,

besides, these lens are so inexpensive, that you can use for a year, and then sell use for 90 dollars or so.

I would save more and buy the G lens for better experience. Not everybody has good eyesight and MF will make it more challenging but if you are slow in using MF, your subjects might become impatient.
