Upgrade

Hello I've 2 d90s and would like to upgrade do I go d7200 or d750 I have dx lens which are a sigma 10mm to 20mm a nikon 40mm and a nikon 50mm and a sigma 150 -500mm any advice will be much appreciated thanks

Welcome! Unless you are prepared to buy some new glass the d750 isn't a good choice. Depending on your budget you might look a the d500.

The d500 is more money than the d750 will my lens be any good on fx or not ? (Thanks)

I went from a D70 to a D200 to a D7200 and could not be happier. Since you already have DX lenses, if you go to D750 you will need to replace them. Not if you go with the D7200. Unfortunately, either upgrade will require new memory cards.

Hi Simon, The D90 is a surprisingly good camera. I had one for many years and was very happy with it. The 7200 has a faster autofocus and higher resolution; otherwise, the differences aren't all that big, so I think that would be a great choice.

Agree that going to the 750 may not be a good idea since you would have to buy new lenses. The only other camera I would consider in your place is the 7500 since it has a number of improvements over the 7200 but is not that much more expensive.

Welcome to the Forum Simon. The first question is what kind of photos do you like to take. That should play a part in your decision.

I think the D7200 is a great camera and would be a good jump over your current body. love FX too but you will lose one lens and some reach. I have the D7200 with the 200-500 f5.6 Nikon lens and until a few weeks ago I had the Sigma 10-20 3.5. I also had similar mid range lenses. I loved what I had. I took landscapes, sunrises and some birds and such. But I had a chance to add a D700 and a 14-24 f2.8 Nikkor lens to my kit and sold the 10-20. I now use both bodies - the 7200 keeps the 200-500 on most times and the 700 does the landscapes and close work.

The 10-20 will be of no use on the FX but all the others will work, but you lose the 1.5 crop factor. If you like the 10-20 and the reach of the 150-500 stay with DX. If you can stand to lose that one go to the 750. But If you can stand the bump to your budget and you like the 10-20 and the reach you should at least look at the 500

Thanks ..mostly I shoot my daughter at fencing comps I do like sunsets and general things I would like a 500 but not sure if I want to spend that much so my do the 7500 and stay dx and again thank you for the advice

What kind of pictures do you take? Sports, birds go for the D500. Fantastic camera. Landscape portrait D850/810/750.

You can use the DX lenses on your full frame by putting it in DX mode. Or am I mistaken? I know you loose MP but you could do that until you get more lenses. The D750 is such a awesome camera. I would go that route I think. Or sell your lenses and buy one all around lens for now and save and add to it as you can. This also depends what kind of shooting you do.

I tried that when I got my D750. I got better results with my D7100 than using DX lenses on a FX camera. Don't do it.

D7500 is a great camera but I'd spend a few more hundred and purchase a refurbished D500. That's what I did and I'm very happy.

Fencing? indoors then i take it? (unless it fencing as in constructing them:D) A camera thats good with low light might be something to look at. The D750 would be better, as others have stated you'll need new lenses. The D500 is good with low light apparently, better than the D7200 at any rate

Howdy Simon and welcome to Nikonites!!!

I'm in agreement with what others have suggested, stay with DX bodies until you have moved your lens selection to FX first. I would also consider Nikon refurbished models, so either the D7200, D7500, or the D500. I also like the suggestion to rent and try each body out, to see how they function in your hands with your current muscle memory.

Hi Simon.....you don't say whether size and weight of your equipment will bother you. I would just say that the fx route, you will most definitely encounter some very heavy lenses and bulky. Sure they take great pictures but so does my D500. Not to mention my Sony A7, which of course is mirrorless. Flawless pictures.
