I'm adding this as a separate reply instead of updating my previous reply 'cause this may be important to some folks............................... Now that the TX is working I decided to update the 685 to the current version................ Downloaded the 1.3.4 firmware from Yongquo. Downloaded the 1.1 Flash update software.... Everybody is CURRENT...... Installed, unzipped, did all the normal stuff..... Held the GR button and turned on the TX. got the OK. The Flash Update software was happy and said "Yup, connected". Turned on the 685 while holding the Mode button and it went into update mode, showing the old firmware 1.3.2.......... Ran the update. Went fine, churned along 'til it was done. LED on the flash went red/blue/whatever... Happy happy........ EXCEPT THAT AT THE END, THE FLASH DIDN'T RESTART............................ YES, I BRICKED THE FLASH TOO!!!!!!!!! Off to the Internet to find some information. Found instructions. SEVERAL sets. Found the 1.3.3 version of firmware so I downloaded that. Tried again....... STILL JUST A BIG PAPERWEIGHT....... Over in the dpreview forum I found a long topic about updating the firmware. And FINALLY after reading a bunch of topics/replies I found this: "Add this bit: If the updater shows no sign of recognising the .dfu file, try renaming it from Yongnuo's name (eg rename YN685N_FW_V1.3.3.dfu (note strange characters in the name) to 685_133.dfu and browse to that instead." My update file(s) BOTH looked like YN685N_FW_ú+ú¦.ú¦.4, so I went ahead and renamed the .dfu file, removing the gibberish.... Reran the update. This time it worked fine. My UPDATE RECOGNIZED THE .DFU WITH THE WONKY CHARACTERS FINE - OR AT LEAST IT SAID IT DID, AND IT SAID IT SUCCESSFULLY UPDATED..... That's it. I'm DONE. I don't want to update any other firmware EVER AGAIN! I apparently have much bad karma or something.
