unlock sd card doesn't work

My camera shows sd card locked. So I shifted the write protect lock. But now I still have the error. On youtube I saw a solution by placing a piece of tape over the card.
Does this work or is there another solution? I have other sd cards but than he says: memory card cannot be used. anyone?

As you don't say what camera you have it is hard to be specific also the exact message could helpful.
Get a known good card or new card then format the card in the camera and test.
If every thing is working then you can trouble shoot the original card. If not you may have a problem with the contacts in the camera. Use a USB reader to see if you can access the card.
I have never had to tape a card except special cards that had the lock removed. The lock should be in the position toward the contacts.If you try this be careful you don't want the tape coming off in the camera.
Is it possible that the card is not locked but the images are locked?

it says memory card is locked. I tried to format the card with a card-reader, but still the same message. Now I first have to get a new card and try it again. If that doesn't work maybe it's the camera. It's new. Thank you for helping.

Sorry to hear you are having issues with your new camera,If it is new contact the seller. It is recommended that the cards be formatted by the camera sometimes there are compatibility issues but if the camera won't read the card it can't format it.

I had the same problem with my D5600 ... switching the tab on the sd card did not help, tried multiple cards - no help, tried "authorized cards" - no help ... put some electrical tape to cover the sd card switch - too thick. Tried regular tape - worked! Thanks to the OP for your insight. Now need to keep some tape in my camera bag. :)
