I don't know if I'd call it a "spankin'" only because when I see things like that I always wonder about focus calibration. While real world comparisons are nice, they're not as practical as something with real details. Here's a site I use all the time when getting a feel for how one lens might perform against another.

I've loaded the two lenses in question here. It's great as you can change aperture and focal length and find sweet spots and where the lens might be weaker. Just mouse over the image to change from one lens to the other.
