I have the sigma 10-20 and like it very much. Someone who has the Tokina will probably tell you the same about their lens...

Hi, I'm that someone - I have the Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX 11-16mm F2.8, lovely lens! distortion visible at 11, barely visible at 16mm. Sharp and fast. looks quite chunky too (compared to my 35mm 1.8G).

I don't think you'd do bad getting either of these two!

i have the Tokina myself and love it. I would say you cant go wrong with either but if you decide to go with Tokina, make sure to get the DX II for the auto focus on the lens. Good luck and enjoy!

I have the Sigma 8-16mm and it's a great lens with the DX. That said, it does not take filters, so if you use ND's and Polarizers then you will want to consider the others. But having what equates to a 12mm is real nice.

off topic sorry - how does that compare to the rokinon 8mm?

Very different. The Rokinon is pure fish eye where the Sigma does a good job at squaring up lines. Not quite rectilinear, but nothing as warped as a fish eye. Plus it's got autofocus, which the Rokinon doesn't have. The result is that the Rokinon actually gives you a wider field of view. Here's a couple quick shots of my "hole".

I have a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 that I'm very happy with as well. On the plus side, image quality is excellent and depth of field is amazing at these focal lengths. I love the constant f/2.8 and anyone who thinks you won't be shooting landscapes at that aperture in low light doesn't understand how focal length affects DOF. The lens controls on the Tok' are all silky smooth and the overall build quality is very confidence inspiring. There's definitely some distortion and some chromatic aberration to deal with but both are easily corrected for in post'. The lens seems a little heavy but I can't really compare it to anything else and it IS packing a lot of glass so it's to be expected. I also wish it took a smaller filter but that's a minor nit-pick. This is a great lens if you wanna go reeeeeally wide.

The 3 top ultra wides for DX are:
Tokina 11-16
Sigma 10-20
Nikon 10-24
(in no particular order)

all 3 will do very well in most situations, so you can take a pick with any of them & won't go wrong!

ha ha thanks, actually my only question would have been, - 3 computers?!

Only two, my personal Macbook and my work laptop. The other monitor is an extension for the work laptop. I do data modeling as a part of my job (insert modeling joke here) and the extra monitor is essential so I don't have to flip back and forth between specs and the model. Heck, there's times I'll email requirements to myself so I can pull them up on the Mac.
