Honestly I don't think it does anything to your computer except telling your connection to go through a different channel instead of following your DNS pathway. Now maybe someone better knowledgeable than me could either contradict or confirm my suspicions.
What surprised me is that even the service person at my ISP service center told me that he was using the google DNS at home because he thought it was faster... Go figure.
