Tripod

While this subject has been covered in a number of threads, reading the last one prompted me into looking at my 20+ year old tripods and deciding a new one is in order.

Decision made, I'm no longer a backpacker and do limited onsite jobs so weight isn't an issue, it's the Slik Pro 700 DX. Every review I've read has stated solid as a rock and it's rated for 15lbs of equipment. Should be (for me) another 20-year tripod. For $100 I foresee no disappointment.

I do a lot of small product photography under controlled lighting limited to vertical and horizontal camera movement. Considering the take my breath away cost of a top quality ballhead that doesn't sag after precise adjustments my preference is panhead. It also, for me, does well with staged portraits.

Here's a question for anyone: it either comes with or without a head. The load capacity for both states 15 pounds. Since the head weighs something, wouldn't that factor into the load capacity of the model that includes a head? Why do both models state a 15 pound capacity?

I would think the head should be included in the overall weight. The link doesn't specify the load weight of the model which includes the head. Perhaps describing it this way implies the weight of the head is extra.

I have the 700DX with the 3-way pan/tilt head. The overall design of the tripod is extremely stable and allows for a wide range of heights/positions. I don't have any experience with ball heads so I can't make a comparison on those.

This guy is selling his Markins and Manrotto tripod for $375 just in case someone is in the market. I don't know this guy btw but thought of sharing just in case.
