Tripod Question

i am thinking of stretching it a bit & pick this - Manfrotto 055XPROB 3-Section Tripod w/ 322RC2 055XPROB,322K B&H

i have not heard much about this ball head but it has some great reviews on B&H...

thoughts?

It's not really a ball head. It's called a pistol grip head. Some people like them...some don't. It's a personal choice. Nothing wrong with that tripod, though.
Here's something else to think about; the cost of replacement parts for your tripod. Guess which ones are more expensive...carbon fiber or aluminum? ;)

well i guess i'll end it at that...
it's time to give my head a break after 3 days of non-stop contemplation...
i think it's decent.. the height is quite right & if i do upgrade to a full frame & slightly heavier lenses this should do...
:)

@fotojack, you are right, it would have been better to have said less stable than weakens, right thought, wrong word :).

@Dooku77, nothing wrong with a monopod. There are times (and places) that a monpod is much better than a tripod.

As for tripods, I'm actually getting ready to replace mine with a carbon fiber one. I've narrowed it down to a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 CF or an Induro CT213 Carbon. Both abut the same price (~$400), with similar weight loads and height. Once I look at them side-by-side, I'll make my final decision.

That's good advise. Thank you. Plus it will help alleviate the fatigue from holding the camera.

does that work well on a monopod? I'll add one to my cart

i am not sure, wouldn't think so. Call b & h and talk with their video people. I found shooting video on a monopod very shaky. There is a monopod that has a tripod base.... again, something i would check with the big photo shop in your area.
