If you have it fully open, you can put a finger on each side of the knob and push the vise plate in to close the gap without tightening the screw. Maybe you can determine that way if something is jamming the slide or if its the threads. And since you will probably be returning it, you might as well force it,lol. Maybe there is a one-time bad thread in there that will clear itself. I hate having to return stuff. </p><p>I like this tripod, I would definitely stick with it and get a replacement if need be.
