Took the D600 for a spin.

My D600 was delivered this week but the only lens I had was the Nikon 80-200. I visited a couple pawn shops in search of a lens to use "right now" and found a Nikkor 28-105 3.5-4.5d on an old film body. I figured why not and bought it for $60. I went to an antique shop and took some pictures. This camera is AMAZING! I was reading about it's low light ability and was like can it be that much better? Man were you guys right! High ISO between this and my D300 is like night and day. Now to save for a faster lens.

I am in the exact situation as you but was 4 months later! Read so much reviews and test it in NSC show room. But never got chance to really try it myself. It is as what you have described, putting on my glasses at last. Not that the D300 is not performing but it's days are over for low light condition. Now I need not worry if the speed is too slow, vibration and noise issues. Half the time, I am not happy when the shots could deliver the clarity I want.

I took this hand held with my AFS 70-300 VR lens. It would not be possible with my D300 without noise due to low light.
