Need help, as you have guessed :)

Looking to buy a zoom lens, so far it's a choice between the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300MM F4.5-5.6G VR, or the NIKON 70-300MM F4.5-5.6G AF-S VR IF-ED if I can spend the extra. But looking at others I came across this one
Tokina 80-400mm f4.5-5.6 AT-X Telephoto zoom lens Nikon AF any one have info.

Camera D5100/55>105mm lens

Thanks

I have the Nikon 55-300 VR lens. The 70-300 you mention gets better reviews and if you can afford it, that would be a good option, but if it doesn't suit your budget, FWIW I am very happy with the one I have. I don't know anything about the Tokina you mentioned, and can't comment, save to say that I have borrowed one and own one (both UWA's) tokina lenses and have only been impressed with both the build and optical quality. The one thing to consider is whether there is image stabilization in that Tokina you are looking at. If you are shooting on a tripod, then by all means, do some research on it and if it trumps the others for you, go for it. But if you are going to be shooting handheld some or most of the time, and there is no IS, I wouldn't even consider it.

Not to highjack your thread, but interesting that this came up. I have been considering getting a Sigma 70-300mm that's on sale for $145 Cdn. I'm going to look at one tomorrow, so I'll know more about it by then.

Have you looked here for Tokina results not much at 400mm but near the end a few at 330mm.

Thanks for help.
I have been to a Nikon dealer with my camera and tried out the 55>300mm lens. Great len's. They told me that it isnt worth paying extra for a 70>300mm lens unless Im going to change my camera to a full frame in the future. The Sigma lens they say is not quite as good and was a few pounds more.
So I have decided to go for the Nikon 55>300mm. Their price at £239 is a bit steep and looking about I can get one posted to me with Nikon warranty for about £200.

While looking I came across this one? what is the fitting on the front of len's????
