Has anybody used one of these ? Seeing a few of them on Ebay for pretty good prices ,former Nikon people founded the company.

I was wondering who outbid me on that one yesterday. LoL.

The Tokina SD version got pretty good reviews on several searches I did. The complaints were about slow AF and not being super sharp without good light. However; if you read close, most were comparing to much higher costing lenses. A Nikon 200-400 f4 or 500 f4 it's not, but given its cost/performance ratio, I think it's worth it. It's also supposed to be much sharper and faster than it's Sigma APO counterpart.

No that wasn't me David ! I didn't want to bid on something I knew nothing about . I'll look at those reviews and read up on it . I have someone I know who has a manual version of this lens for sale ,might be worth picking it up .

LoL. Was j/k on you grabbing it. Figured you wouldn't be asking after buying. I don't think I'd personally mess with the manual version unless you never plan on shooting any birds in flight photos or you have super human reflexes and speed focusing skills. For me; that's exactly why I would be buying a lens like this.

Good luck in your search. Given that they are usually in the $200 range; I still think it'd be worth a try.

No I'm not super human unfortunately ! LOL but I do want to try and get a 400mm lens in a prime though that's not super expensive , like that Tokina model . Sometimes it would be nice to have that little extra reach for birds that are just out of sight with my 70-300. I figured finding something on Ebay that's older might be a good option for me and I'm only a hour away from Port Huron Michigan where I have a P.O box I use for my car parts I buy now and then .I see you have a 80-200 f2.8 how do you like that lens and can it handle a teleconverter to extend the reach ? Those come up used for sale sometimes up here on Kijiji .

I just bought this lens (close focus SR model) for only $50 inc overnight shipping so real cheap....works great with the D810 but on the D7100 in A mode it says f32 and I have to adjust the aperture manually...not a problem and its sharper on the D7100 than the tam 150-600 is on the D810

any advice re the aperture not following the control wheel ..ok in P and S

I did find the rotating focus control a pain when holding but I split some 60mm plastic tube and put that around the lens to cover it and now its easy to hold. ( tube was 72mm in length)
