Oh admit it, your just trying to stay ahead of me now that I'm going to be getting a D8xx! Lol ;)

Well its not the best but I want to be able to print quality prints on my own and see the results. Kind of like going from a film camera to a digital camera, I will be in total control ;)

This is why I stay very close to the guys in the college print shop and imaging lab -- puzzle out odd issues, help with editing, lecture on printing history, and get free printer use. When you work for minimum wage, you do what you can do.

Nice buy, but unless you are in business of selling fine art prints, an in house printer works out to be very expensive proposition.

In fact here in Delhi, where we have excellent printing shops, the cost per square foot of gallery quality prints are at least 1/5th of what it will cost to have it printed in house, when you factor in the capital cost, annual maintenance and cost of consumables. If the volumes are low the economics is even more skewed. I had an Epson A4 photo printer some five years ago. After exhausing two sets of colour cartridges, I realised that commercial printers were charging less than the ink cost that I incurred.

I am not fussed by how much I will be printing but at the present time I am living remotely and to be able to print mount and display in a matter of days will be very beneficial. As for return profit, photography is a hobby I make my money saving lives. I have a $100,000 car that gives me no profit just takes takes takes, I just like the freedom that car gives me. The printer will give me the same freedom and will also give me greater quality control.
