Taking the SB800 after thinking about it seems like a good idea. I haven't used in in a while so I got it out and started playing with it. I couldn't get the flash head to zoom with my lens and after about 1 1/2 hours of cussing and fussing finally figuring out that when the diffuser is on the front of the flash that the flash sets itself to 14mm and will not change when you zoom the lens. With the diffuser off it worked just fine. The flash almost got airborne a couple of times before figuring this out.
