This looks like a hidden recall

When you see the numbers i think the D700 and D7100 where added to muddy the waters

4,300 D800/D800E owners, as well as to aprox. 100 D700 owners and around 100 D7100 owners.

The "free maintenance service initiative? is sent only to D800, D800E, D700 and D7100 cameras owners | Nikon Rumors

It's doubtful that it is a recall since only a selection of those that registered got an email. I think they're trying to make up and build some goodwill after all those real recalls.

To include D700 camera i have my doubts about that,i thought the same when i made my first post but with over 4000 D8xx cameras and just a few others,it smells fishy to me.

The D700 is 7 years old. It would seem strange to only now detect some issues with it.

If it was one type I'd be suspicious but 4 types and only 100 of the D7100 seems strange. Maybe they, at the same time, try to subtly make people register their products.

They communicated openly about issues lately so I don't see why they suddenly would do something sneaky. They're even doing recalls for problems none knew existed.

It's just with these things; bad vibes travel faster and wider. Until proven otherwise, I don't see anything negative behind it.
