Teleconverter Series

I was looking at some photos taken with a Canon 5D Mk III + 2x teleconverter + 2.8/400L and they are amazing, so a few questions about the Nikon Teleconverter series:

When looking at Nikon's list of lenses I notice the converters are not listed when searching DX only, are they compatible with the DX system?

Do the converters effect image quality?

Thank You
:eek: Gee.... I did a little more reading and yes the are DX compatible.

Most of the time yes to a certain extent,is the larger image compensation for that only you can answer that, not sure but Nikon are a bit funny about which lenses take one of there converters but you could try the Kenko 1.4 mentioned in another thread, you will only match the canon results if you spend a similar amount of money on top glass from Nikon.IMO

Well no wonder the pictures are great. The 400 2.8 is a $10,000.00 lens. Please don't expect to see the same results with a Kenko 2x and a 55-300 5.6 nikon lens.

LOL, I never looked at the price of that lens, so ya, they should be amazing. Wow, $10K.

On my D90 I use a DX 18 - 105 for most of my photos and occasionally a DX 55 - 300. If I were to add a 1.7 teleconverter would it tend to make my photos a little soft? Any other issues?

The tele converters (some of them at least) have protruding glass in the front and they can damage some lenses. Look in your lens user manual or with Nikon website to make sure your zooms can use the TC.

One major problem is that you will loose 2 stops of light and your zoom being 5.6 they will become f11 at the max opening. This would probably cause huge focus problems with your D90. Basically, it would not work with good results.

There is no cheap way to getting professional images like the ones you see that were done using 10,000 dollars lenses.

So, either you start saving or go ebay to find the bargain that can show once in a lifetime.

Thank you Marcel for steering me to the lens user manuals for my desired information, I didn't think of that. The manuals for the converters were the biggest help.

The end result: It does not appear that my lenses will work with Nikons teleconverters.

Thanks everyone.
