Team GB

Interestingly our team is called the team of Great Britain & Northern Ireland.... it's too confusing to explain this oddity but I will try....

Scotland is a country within the United Kingdom but they are also British although Scottish because they are in the British Isles... Wales is a Principality (and a Country), is also in the UK and they are British and also Welsh. Those living in Cornwall think they are in a separate country but they are English who are also British. The British are NOT English, OK so far? Now, the Northern Irish are in fact Irish (or called Scotch Irish by some Americans ??) but they are British (when it suits them) although they are probably Irish as Ireland is NOT part of the UK or GB... although they are part of the British Isles..... sigh. OK, the NI are a mix of all sorts of Scots, Irish and dare I say - through marriage, English as well... mind you there are so many British and Irish marriages we can't tell who's who these days. I went to a school in London as a boy where we all wore shamrock on St Patricks Day and I was the one who felt left out 'cos I was English.

Why all this then?

IT'S BECAUSE OF THIS

Thank you! I will wear it with pride once you get it in the post to me...... :p I forgot, the English are probably Danish, French and a bit of Roman..... and the real "English" hid in Wales and built a huge "dyke" (don't get confused with this term it means a defensive ditch in English) to keep the Romans out at which they succeeded so they must be "native Brits".... heaven forbid! Now, Americans, let me think ..... :victorious:

Thanks for the brief version and congrats on Team GB.

The geopgraphy sounds a little confusing to me but since I barely know the historic background aside from the stuff that I watched from the movie "Braveheart". I can only tell once people starts talking with their accent, which I like BTW.

May you have more sunny days ahead.

Ah yes, "Braveheart" the wonderful view of life from that master of his art, the Australian/American Mel Gibson.... as about as accurate as The Patriot was....! :D ...

We have been enjoying the Olympics, watching it every evening. Always fund to voye for the home team but always admire the skill and training regardless of country.
