I just bought one and hopefully I'll have it by weeks end. I don't see a thread dedicated to this lens.

Tamron SP AF 70-200mm F2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro review: Digital Photography Review

Looks to be a very good performer but not as good as the new version.

I wrote Tamron and asked about my production year and next day I had a response.

Hello,
That lens was sold from us to Amazon in July of 2009.

It came in!!!! It's spotless the outside and glass are pristine the only sign it's been used is the tripod mount has a scratch on the bottom mount side....that's it.

Looks very sharp, I played around with one awhile back at a local shop, built like a tank too!

Very solid for sure. The focus is on the slow side compared to their Ultra Sonic drive they use now but not that bad.

Not much to shoot around the yard I really like the "focus plane"??. Out of focus in front and behind.

Yes, looks like the focus is dead on. AF speed was the only "con" when I researched the 70-200's, it's actually much lighter than the new VC which is a big plus. Even at the new price it's a great buy if you don't "need" VC (which we all lived without for many years). There really was handheld photography before VC/VR :).

Yes we did live without VC VR OS IS....I picked this one up LNIB for $525 so around 3X less than the VC version. This lens is a bang for the buck lens. I took a few shots stepped down to good old f/8 and it's razor blade sharp.

I am beyond pleased with this lens!!!
Deadly sharp and just look at those colors and creamy bokeh!!!
Midday harsh Arizona sun on very bright colors.
