From what i've read and viewed so far, the 70-300 has some stronger points when compared to the 70-200, specially the VC.

The VC is excellent. That's part of why I like this lens so much. I easily shoot 1/30s at 300mm hand held and get perfect results.

Tamron has just come out with a new 70-200, I believe it has the new VC

I owned this lens and the Nikon at the same time. The Tamron is much sharper at 300mm wide open and the VC is way more effective. I'm a big Tamron fan and also have the 24-70mm f/2.8 VC. The 70-200 f/2.8 VC is on the short list.
