[QUOTE="Iansky, post: 648490, member: 9824"] I was in Swindon recently so my wife could attend to some business so I had time to walk around and grab a few street photos before heading down to the "Swindon Railway Village". These are cottages that were built in 1846 by Great Western Railway for it's workers. These are listed buildings so must retain the character from when they were originally built yet on the inside they are modern with all current amenities for comfortable living, they were built in two blocks of four parallel streets and to this day retain the character of yesteryear as areas outside the village are demolished and new houses / offices built. It is not easy to find railway workers who still live in the cottages but there are a few who still work on the railway close by, the cottages are very convenient for both the town and the station so are occupied by a range of ages and occupations making a diverse community with a love of the heritage they enjoy.
