Suggested Wedding Rig for Rental

Hi all,

I currently have a Nikon D7000 and a 50mm 1.4 lens, but I am shooting a somewhat fancy San Francisco wedding next weekend and want to make sure I have the best gear. Looking to rent another lens at least (zoom), and even potentially a different camera body for the event.

...any suggestions on what might be best!?

Thanks for the help

Most wedding photogs shoot with 2 bodies and, at minimum, 24-70, 70-200, a macro and strobes. Come as close to that as you can and it will make shooting the wedding easier and the bride and groom much happier.

Lots to consider. Are you shooting indoors, outdoors or both? If indoors, how is the lighting? Outdoors, what time of day? Sunny, cloudy night time, in the morning?

If you're going to rent, I would start with an FX camera like a D610 or a D750. If it's going to be an indoor thing with low light, you might need a D3S if no flash is allowed or one that can't be used because of high ceilings and such. I don't envy you.

Its always a big pain to suggest equipment for a wedding because people always want to argue...
But here doing 60 weddings a year I would suggest .....
A D7100 or 7200 with a 18-140 mm set A mode auto iso 200-6400 f stop 5.6 and dont move anything.(tape up the dials)
If you must go FX then a D750 or better and a 28-300mm .whatever you use set the back focus right or your ring shots will be all out of focus.
Flash SB400 and only shoot landscape to avoid side shadows. dont use the flash outside FP mode 1/320
forget all this 50mm stuff ..not wide enough and forget f 1.8 not enough depth of field. P mode for the dancing/disco
Your D7000 is well past its sell by date but would make a good spare.
I personally shoot large basic sharpness +9 but you may want to do jpeg +raw but do push the sharpness up and dont wimp out at +7
Shoot everyting twice at 2FPS to avoid blinkers.
The camera is nothing to do with your wedding success .its just a thing on the end of your arm..much more important to dress smart and carry a megaphone.
If you think there could be any legal come back or complaints go wired.

The Tennis Ball dangling - and 50 halved tennis balls are interesting.
I am guessing you use the former for getting a group shot and ppl to focus on? And the halved ones for lighting?
What would you do with the traffic cones?

Yup, yup. Especially backup female photographer for the girlie shots. That was one of the things I learnt from the best teacher.

Forgot the steps and a set of battery operated disco lights for the first dance.
