Could someone suggest a good mini -small tripod for macro photograpy. I want something small (40-50 cm ) , light and stability. I have manfroto 055xprob with manfroto 498 RC2 but it is to awkward for photography insects and of course transfer. Gorilapod focus? Unreliable.

Smaller tripods may not provide the stability that you are looking for. What camera and lens are you using? Do you use a rail to adjust the distance?

Not sure you are giving enough info Kiwi.

Outdoor or light tent?
Do you need to go right down to floor level.
If going on a walk do you have a maximum weight or folded size in mind?
What is the weight of your camera and lens? How long is the lens? Will you be using a shoe flash?
Do you need a focus rail for image stacking?
Do you have a remote release?

Some of my questions may be irrelevant but what one guy finds great for insect macro might not suit another photographer.

EDIT: Oops just seen the camera and lens post.
