So I've had an issue with my router not giving me a strong signal across the whole house for a while now. I finally decided to fix it since I want to stream video, music, and pics through my PS3 using a program called PlayOn. I already have the Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu app on my PS3, but PlayOn enables lots of other 'channels' by basically taking their online player and formatting it for your TV. You can also stream your iTunes music and pics. Unfortunately my PS3 doesn't have 802.11n wifi (it's an older one) so I figured instead of running a wire across the house I would just see what was available as far as network extenders. The last time I tried something like this I took an old Linksys router and loaded up DD-WRT on it, but this wouldn't work since I wanted wireless n. This time I found the Cisco/Linksys RE1000 Wireless N-Range extender. Even better I found a refurbished one for $15 less. Perfect! I'll allow me to hook the PS3 up to the network extender via the ethernet port. It's even small enough to put next to the PS3 in my entertainment center. The setup was pretty straight forward, although at the configuring step (after entering the password for the wireless network you want to connect to) it threw an error despite actually being setup and working. The next road bump I ran into was with my FIOS router. I was pulling out hair trying to figure out why I couldn't see the PlayOn media server from the PS3 or my laptop while on the same network. Apparently by default the FIOS actiontec router doesn't allow wireless streaming. So for anyone out there having the same issue, do this: Login to the router (192.168.1.1) Advanced > Yes > IPMG Proxy - Set IGMP Proxy (Enable/Disable): to Disable and save. Now I have faster wireless streaming on my TV through my PS3! Note that the program I used also works with an Xbox, Wii, Android & iOS devices. Tips:

Make sure media streaming is enabled on your PS3 under settings
If you previously had your PS3 set to your wireless network, make sure to run the internet connection setup again so it connects to the now wired network extender.
If you have other devices you want to connect to the extender you may see your SSID twice when viewing wifi networks. Choose the one with the stronger signal. The password will be the same.
If you have any type of MAC filtering on your network, it may be tricky to set up the extender. It does support filtering, but you'll have to change the rules on your main router since the extender assigns every device a virtual MAC address and passes that back to the main router.
