I picked up a Storm IM2500 with padded dividers and lid organizer. I love the quality and the protection but, it barely fits my gear. My second carry on would ideally be a Chrome Industries Niko messenger as that would be my on the go bag when on the trip.
I could split my it my gear and throw 1 body and a couple lenses in the Niko and the second body, a couple lenses and support gear in the Storm. This is my issue, has anyone packed their gear in the hard case and put aside the lid organizer/foam padding, then packed clothes on top of the gear. It would be only a 3-5 day trip during the summer, Iwear a lot of athletic type clothes so the clothes would be light and wouldn't be a lot. I could opt for a larger camera backpack or shoulder bag, pack my clothes in that and swap out once at my destination? I have a Retrospective 40 that could fill that spot but would suck at destination because if I'm riding a bike it wouldn't be the best option.
As as far as the Retro 40, will that fit under seat? What would be the largest camera backpack to fit under also?
and maybe needless to say, the clothes would be laundered before the return flight.
