I know I have posted a few pictures of York, mainly the huge Minster that we are lucky enough to have... But there is much more to this beautiful place that I'm lucky enough to live in... The City started out being called "Jorvik" when it was first raided and settled by the Vikings, and later "Eboracum" when it was taken over and fortified by the Romans. For a medieval city, there is lots of strange things around... Mad Alice Lane - This "Lane" got its name from a woman, who was hanged for being insane (Pre-healthcare, obviously!) Whip-ma-whop-ma-gate - Believed to be the original site of York's Stocks and whipping post, where criminals and ner-do-wells were beaten, normally to death. York Shambles - One of the narrowest streets in the country An open doorway into one of the old buildings, now a shop selling strange liqueurs And finally this lady... She only appears after dark near the minster - My wife couldn't see her and she simply disappeared after I took this.... (Actually, the last bit isn't true... She's a tour guide who dresses up for tourists... But it doesn't half scare the $*!t out of you when she floats past after dark at the end of her shift!)
