Stacking filters?

I've just received my Hoya 67mm HD Pro CPL, since it was quite pricey I was thinking of using a UV filter in front of it to protect it from scratches etc.. Will the UV filter effect the CPL?

I would not do that, each layer of filter degrades light transmission and to a certain degree, IQ. I have stacked a ND and a CPL, but that was to lower the shutter speed on purpose. Gonna buy an ND1.8 so I don't have to do that.

Stacking filters is never a really good idea as each adds two glass to air surfaces which further reduces light transmission and potentially adds to flare. If you are concerned about scratching your polarizer, than put it back in its case when you are done using it. There is no advantage whatsoever to keeping a polarizer on your lens at all times.

I agree with what the others have said. When I use a circular polarizer, I remove my UV filter and place it in the CP's box. I take the box along with me, and when I'm done with the CP, I simply switch them.

I'm fairly certain you won't harm your filters by stacking them. In fact, many people do this with their ND filters. But one thing is certain, stacked filters will give you massive vignetting with each additional filter.
