Spongy Shutter Button

Just got my Brand New D7100, and my first concern is that the shutter button seems almost spongy. Is this normal?

I've upgraded from a D5100, and that button is a lot more solid feeling. The shutter button on that is very easy to find the halfway mark, then a solid press to release the shutter.

On the D7100 it feels very spongy to press. This makes it difficult to find the halfway point, as there is no solid stop.

Is this normal? Or have I got a dud?

Thanks,

James

I don't know about spongy but it does have a lot more travel than my old D60 - which makes it easier to find the halfway point. The "halfway" point is anywhere from the time you press it to the time it finally take the picture - and it doesn't do that till you bottom out on the shutter button - so to me, it's a lot better. I just tried my brother's D800 and it's the same.
