Anyone heading out for Speed Week? Last year I went and shot vehicles for myself. This year I was invited to come out and shoot to sell which is in great part why I have been absent from the forum so much as of late getting ready to go on the road.

If you do come out to Speed Week bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and binoculars or a lot of camera zoom. The closest you can get is 1/4 mile due to the speeds the cars are moving. It also helps to have a radio so that you can listen to race radio broadcast on site to know when a vehicle is heading down one of the four lanes.

Here are a few shots from last year.

Last two evenings the desert gods have been unkind and dumped rain on the worlds now soggiest flats. If we get anymore rain they are going to cancel it. Crossing my fingers and holding my breath. Sure, I will cry at the couple of thousand dollars spent getting set up for this show, but I truly feel for those teams that have put cars on ships months ago and may have to just crate them up and send them back.

Check back in later.

CANCELED! Absolutely crushing. Months of planning, prep, and dollars washed away. All of it under water.

No shortage of sad stories here. The saddest? A film was being shot about this girl who grew up here on the salt with racer dad. She just turned 16 and was race qualified to run the salt this year.

Going to sit here in my pity, staring at the newly formed lake polluted with dead hopes and dreams.

I "liked" this in sympathy for you and all those who have had such bad luck. Sorry mate.

I want to learn how to process like this. I just love the effect.

In hindsight, I wish I had shot the salt pattern with my red filter. Kicking myself. There was a student in my wife's school that would say, "stupid brain, stupid brain" when he was disappointed in himself. I clearly understand him now, that's how I feel looking back. :)

Sorry to hear this, but look at it this way. You are in a very beautiful state. You could head out to the Canyonlands and get some fantastic sunset shots.

Thinking of doing something like that. Feeling inspired to try and create a black and white shot that I saw in the new Sin City movie trailer. The upside, I have all my equipment paid for to set up next year.

GO! GO! GO! While you are inspired - we're all waiting to see the results.
