Sony RX10 IV - first images

Recently, I posted that I bought a used Sony RX10 IV from MPB, funding part of the purchase by selling my Panasonic DC-FZ1000 II to MPB. Both cameras use a 1" sensor. Although the Sony was released 2 years prior to the Panasonic, it incorporates a feature that I don't think any other bridge camera manufacturer offers even today - a sensor using phase detection autofocus (315 AF points covering 65% of imaging area). All the others use contrast detection AF type sensors. As I understand it, in 2017 Sony basically took the sensor technology it was using in its then new full frame A9 body and put into the RX10 III to create the RX10 IV.

Here are some of the images I got the day after it arrived. I normally capture RAW+jpg files with my cameras but I had not tried Sony's free post processing software so these are camera jpg's. I tweaked the lighting and cropped them using FastStone Image Viewer.

Once the icy grip of winter relaxes a bit here in Texas, I'm looking forward to seeing what can be accomplished in the way of BIF shots with this camera. The highest burst rate is 24 fps with medium burst rate at 12 to 14 fps so it will be interesting.

UPDATE: Well the icy storms subsided and the roads were clear so Sunday I wandered over to a local lake to see what kind of BIF shots I could get with the RX10 IV. Ducks, cormorants, coots, and geese were plentiful but the only flyers I saw were gulls. Here are some camera JPGs that, like those posted above, were tweaked and cropped with FastStone Image Viewer.

FWIW, I tried processing some RAW files using Sony's free Imaging Edge software. Maybe it's my Windows 8.1 machine but trying to adjust and develop .ARW files was painfully slow...I mean sloooow.
