The truth about guns bought for protection is an ugly truth. People will buy a gun because they're worried about their safety and it seems like a good idea but more often than not the gun is taken away by the perpetrator and home owner is shot with it. I can now predict the replies to this post saying "you should never point a gun at someone unless you're ready to fire it" and I agree. But I also can site many examples of people shooting their kids or spouse because they wake up to a noise and the minute they see someone they start firing. Don't fool yourself, folks. Owning a gun gives you a false sense of security. The bottom line is this - Bad things happen to good people and if you live your life constantly worried about all the potential bad things that can happen to you then you've wasted a perfectly good life. I own a gun and I would not hesitate to use it, if needed, but I do not delude myself into thinking I'm any safer with the gun than without the gun. It is one thing to prepare for a disaster, it's a whole other thing to dwell on it. I refuse to live a life of fear of what might happen, life is simply too short.
