So, I got a printer....

Now used 4 hours and still not done, omg!

I fell in love with the Canon Pro-1 and I got some Hahnemuhle test paper with it, but having serious problems finding the right paper profile (paper is called Hahnemuhle Matt Fibre 200gsm) - I found several other Hahnemuhle profiles but not this exact one (also found and installed the right color profile).

Actually I was considering Sihl Masterclass as my main printing paper but right now Canon worn me out and maybe I should just go for their own papers lol.

Oh and problem is stripes and something that might be a small "scratch" - which I just found out could be because the paper are to thick for rear feed... just thinking... 200gsm isn't THAT thick. The printer can take up to 350gsm.

Any of you who found a magic site for finding different paper profiles?

It will take you to this page eventually...

ICC Profiles - Hahnemühle FineArt

Just plug in Canon, Pixma Pro-1, Hanhemuhle Photo and you'll get these...

  • Hahnemühle Photo Matt Fibre 200
  • Hahnemühle Photo Glossy 260
  • Hahnemühle Photo Canvas 320
  • Hahnemühle Photo Luster 260
  • Hahnemühle Photo Matt Fibre Duo 210
  • Hahnemühle Photo Silk Baryta 310

Click on the ones you want and then generate the ZIP file for those profiles.

That's almost embarrassing - I've been on that page several times and couldn't find what you just found.

Hehe well.. then my pain was worth something.

Still having problems with the matte paper, still this weird line, also with manual feed. So now I moved to glossy and lustre and it looks very, very, very good! So rich in color. And no line on these paper types.

Did you resolve the problems with the marks on the paper? I was just looking into the options with my own printer as suddenly what I see on my monitor isn't what is printing from my printer. It's either a calibration problem or a printer problem. In any case, I came across these options for my printer's maintenance. I went to my printer's properties then to a tab for printer maintenance. Perhaps yours has something similar?

Thanks Hark but I have been doing cleaning and nozzle check and nothing changed - and also its only on the matte paper it happens. I've ordered a sample pack of Sihl Masterclass, really hoping thats the paper I wanna go with. Hahnemuhle is a bit expensive, I think.

Also want some A3+ special paper for special occasions, someday.. amongst that, Ilford of course, but guess I should get some soon, before the world runs dry :(

Did you fix your problem?

I narrowed it down to be the printer because I finally took some photos to be printed at Walgreen's where the guy told me their printers were calibrated within the past 2 weeks. Those photos look very close to my monitor's images. So I went into my printer's properties and tweaked a few settings so the colors are better, but the changes aren't consistent from one photo to the next. The reds are way off. Too much in one photo but not enough in another. I have a brand new printer that is still sealed in its box so it is time to get it out. This printer I'm using is 4-1/2 years old but will still be good to print documents. :)

Hmm no, not good if its not consistent. At least I think - so far - my colors looks very much like my monitor, which I am SO happy about.

Yeah we are also keeping our 6-7 year old printer for all the none-photo printing! Which paper do you use for pictures?

I use HP Advanced Glossy photo paper as I prefer glossy over matte. Last year Amazon was shipping counterfeit HP paper so I stocked up directly via HP because they had a sale. What is the texture of the paper you are using?

For color/happy images, I prefer glossy too. For b/w its different - mostly matte or metallic. But wanna play with something with structure in too.

I have some Epson Heavyweight Matte Paper (yes, thats the name), it almost looks like the print is on velour :) I will see if I can get an image of it tomorrow.. Really like that one but maybe Sihl looks just as good.

@hark, are you printing from Lightroom or Photoshop? When you do, do you allow the software to manage color or the printer? If you're allowing the software to manage the color (you should) and are selecting the proper paper profile for the printer (you should) then it should be pretty close. That said, I had a major issue printing to my Epson R280 from Photoshop. There was a known issue that would make it print way too dark unless you used a specific set of options (I forget which). It is possible to create a calibrated profile for a printer, my brother did it for me when I was having fits with the Epson, but you need to tools.

I print from PCC. How do you allow the software to manage the color @BackdoorHippie? When I select the print option, it brings up the printer. I can override the default printer settings, but is there a way to use some type of PCC default? Or am I not understanding you?

PCC? Do you mean Photoshop Creative Cloud? I use a Mac, so I can't do a video to show you how. This guy does a tutorial from CS4, but it should be pretty close. The key stuff should be about the same.

Thanks, Jake! That addressed the questions I had. ;)

Just tried a b/w on epson matte (but not the right profile as I couldnt find it) and it was very unsatisfying. So tried the A3+ semigloss from Canon and it looks very good - weird, I have never liked semimat ever before.

Tried a shot of the matte paper on a picture it suits well but not sure if you can see it.. Maybe it just worked really well on my oldschool printer, and not this new fancy one.
