Sling strap for camera

I would like to share my recent experience and hope others will be more mindful and avoid the same situation

In a recent trip, I witness a guy dropped his camera because he didn't strap his camera correctly. The strap came off. I told my wife he should use a sling like what I am using and it is the safest.

Alas, my camera dropped on me and I am lost for words. How on earth could it has dropped? Watch out for the metal ball joint. With the camera turning, over time the metal get worn off. It finally detached from the other part after 3.5 years. Do check each time before use.

What brand/model did you have?

My old super zoom p&s Nikon's strap (standard strap) came undone and it slammed to the floor. Other than denting the lens housing, still worked great.

But since getting my dslr, I didnt want to trust the strap that came with it so I got a black rapid sling.

Thanks for posting this, wouldn't of even thought about it. I've had that "link?" break on plenty of "reversible" belts so I could see it happening.

It is a 3rd party sling 'Candem' or something. Quality wise it is acceptable but the design for the joint....
