Sigma lenses for 2014

There's really no reason to put out a prime with an minimum aperture that high. You can get that in their 50-500 and 150-500 zooms already. The idea with issuing a prime is to do it in as fast a package as possible so you can throw a TC on there if you want. At f/5.6-6.3 you're already maxing out some cameras' ability to autofocus and can likely expect some hunting in lower light. There's no real financial benefit for a manufacturer to go there just to meet a "sensible" price. The truth is, while the prices of long primes can appear ridiculous to most of us, there's some serious work that goes into putting together glass like that, so it's not like they're expensive just so the manufacturer can rake in big bucks.

Cant argue with your reasoning Jake but i still think there could be a market for a reasonably priced good 500 prime, simple construction compered with a a long zoom and possibly a lot lighter, even if you couldn't use a TC with it,still if it has to be the new Tamron super zoom at least it comes with a 5 year warranty.

But that's the thing, what price would you consider "reasonable" and what kind of market is there really for one of them? I suspect it wouldn't be too much less than the comparable zooms, which means that most folks would opt for the zoom and the product doesn't move. Small niche market at best, and not the type of niche that's cost justifiable. If it gets made it's going to be some off brand and not the likes of Sigma, Tokina, Tamron and the like. Maybe a Samyang/Rokinon/Boyer thing.
