Hi
I have the Sigma 24-70 f:2.4 lens. When I zoom it to 24 mm and turn the camera i a angel of 50 the zoom begins to zoom to apprx. 50 mm.

Is there a way that I can make i a little bit harder to turn or is it a normal thing for this lens.

If I understand rightly, are you saying that the zoom ring on the lens turns just by you moving the camera, for example from landscape (flat) to portrait (vertical) orientation? If so, then I'd say no, it definitely shouldn't do that.

If however, you mean that the lens zooms when you point the camera down, some lenses do slowly zoom when this happens - It is called lens creep and can affect the lenses with the heavier elements or the longer zooms. How easily then lens "creeps" is a matter of personal tolerance... If it is under warranty you may be able to have it looked at if you say it is excessive.

I have this lens but never encountered your problem. And I agree with SteveH--if it is under warranty, get it checked out.

Hi Steve
I didn't know what it's called but it's the last. It creeps when moved up, but it dosen't when turned down.

There isn't no longer warranty on it, and it is not a huge problem but would be nice if ther was a easy solution to the problem.

Ah ok, so the lens creeps when pointed upwards - Pretty much the same issue as when pointed downwards - It is something that some lenses suffer from.

I just had a quick Google, and if you search for "Lensband" you may have a very cheap fix, its basically an elastic band that must "Pinch" the zoom ring a little, so it doesn't creep.

THis is Amazon UK, but it will be available where ever you are located.... LensBand Zoom Lens Creep Reducer - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Camera & Photo

Hi Steve
I did the same search and with same result. I do prefer a more pro solution so I think I just start taking photos of little people og buildings.

Yeah I can see how having you zoom changing while pointing the camera upwards would be a pain, especially for buildings!

The "pro" solution is to have it serviced by a professional lens tech. The rubber band solution works and has been used by pros and amateurs alike for years. :)
