I just bought 2 sigma lenses a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Lens which I am here to talk about and a Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon F Mount.

I am looking for info on the prime lens. I read the reviews so I have some general knowledge on the prime lens but I was hoping to get first hand info from someone who has used the lens. I will be using my D7100 I know the lens is FX not DX so I know there will be differences because of it.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Welcome to Nikonites. Both lenses you mention are zoom lenses, not primes. A prime lens is a fixed focal length lens. Maybe you have confused fast with prime. the 17-50 is a 2.8 zoom and is considered fast for a zoom. I'm not certain it is an FX lens though. The 150-500 is an FX.

I've never used the Sigma 17-50 but have the Tamron 17-50 2.8. If the Sigma is as good as the Tammy, you should be more than happy with it.

Happy shooting.

It's not an FX. It's DX.
I'm trying to pick between the Siggy 17-50 2.8 and the 17-70 2.8-f4.
Tough choice but the 17-50 is ahead by a nose.
