Sigma 17-50 2.8

I have ha d the Sigma 17-50 2.8 since my first DSLR the Nikon D5100. I had the D600 and now have the D610, I was looking into buying the Nikkor 24-70 2.8 but I realized that my DX format Sigma 17-50mm on my FX camera would be a 24.5-75mm 2.8. Now should I sell my Sigma lens and come up with the difference to buy the Nikkor? Is the Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8 that much better?

While the apparent focal length may be the same, using a DX format lens on your D610 drops the resolution from 24MP to ~10MP.

The 24-70 is awesome. Bought it when I got my 600. I had been using the Nikon 17-55 on my D7000 (still have both). Tried the 17-55 on the D600 for a couple of shots and immediately ordered the 24-70.

Yeah, getting the Nikkor 24-70 2.8 would be better, its time to post my Sigma on Craigslist. Thanks for the input @singlerrosa & Lenswork.

How did you like the Sigma on the D5100? Its one of the ones on my want list but I've bought a Fujifilm X100 and with that and the 35mm/1.8G it does everything I would need the Sigma 17-50/2.8 for. I want to upgrade the telephoto range first in my collection...

The 24-70 is great but I skipped it and opted for a 16-35 4, 28 1.8 and 50 1.4 and boy was this a great choice. Love primes now and that 16-35 handheld is excellent
