If the lens is for shooting indoors go with the 35mm. Most rooms just don't have the room for shooting with a 50mm. If you're shooting outdoors the 50mm is fine.

^^^^ This. With the 50 on my D90 I turn into a wall ninja. Basically I slide around objects on the opposite wall trying to get my shots.
Go 35mm

If you can swing the 28mm 1.8g it is even better then the 35mm..Better for inside shots as well..Saw one used on Ebay for $500shipped...

I most often use my 35mm 1.8G. To be honest my 50mm rarely gets used but there are occasions where it comes in handy like a couple days ago in my children's gym for their concert it was perfect with no cropping needed. I have the 50mm 1.8D so bought it used and not really a big deal that it sees minimal use. I do however quite often use the 35mm and the 28mm would be fantastic!

:pThe 35mm will serve you in more instances than the 50mm. I have both focal lengths and seldom use the 50mm now that I have the 35. I will keep the 50 because I may one day go berserk and buy a full frame camera.
