Sigma vs Tamron

I am thinking about getting either the Sigma 150mm-500mm lens or the Tamron 200mm-500mm lens to use on my Nikon D5100 or D200 for bird/animal photography. I wonder if anyone has used both and what they think about them. I know the Sigma has stabilization and the Tamron doesn't but is that a deal breaker? I can get the Sigma for about $50.00 less than the Tamron. I will most likely shoot handheld and if necessary I can use my monopod.

At 500mm, handheld, on a cloudy day you will be soooooo grateful for OS. Won't help on moving objects, but definitely will on static ones. IMO go the Sigma. I did, I'm very happy with it and great results can be had once you get the hang of this big boy. :)

if you are not that concerned about vr/os forget either and save for the nikon afs 300 f4 and tc 14ii. no zoom but a good bit sharper.
