Secure photo sites

As some of you may remember my mum recently passed away. She had a huge amount of old and not so old family photos. Being the eldest and into photos I inherited these photos. I intend scanning the photos and sharing with family members as they seem keen in looking at the old photos.

Does anyone know of a website that will allow me to share the photos securely and for other family members to "tag" their relatives... there are a lot of shots of mums brothers and sister when they were growing up in the 40's and 50's and of family weddings where "great aunty annie" were there, but I dont know who these people are as there are no labels on the back saying who is who.... and I would like to know who they are... and in some cases these photos are the only ones in mums family.

So I guess I am looking for a website that allows me to do the following
  • upload photos
  • share photos
  • password protect photos or albums so they arent in the public domain
  • tag / identify people on the photos somehow
  • no time limit on photos being there
  • no limit on how many photos are uploaded

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Wow, flickr hadnt entered my radar, thanks :) I "thought" that I would have to go for a paid subscription service on some other hosting site.

I will talk to the family members and see if it is simple enough for mums generation to use.

I use SmugMug Basic plan ($40/year) for my family images. Locked down with a password that I've shared with family & a few close friends.

You could do the same with a free Flickr site as well.

Both allow you to provide a title and description of each image, album, gallery, etc.
No limit to images/videos either.

No idea bout 'tagging', I have no need for that personally.
