SB700 Pre Flash

I have never done anything special with my SB700 Flash other than put it on and shoot it. Bounce or straight on.

I am trying to learn more about it and also firing it based on movement with a triggertrap. My problem is that it fires three pre-flashes and I can not for the life of me figure out how to turn that feature off. I have tried full manual mode on the flash and I still get it. I need help on how to disable this feature.

Shooting with the D7100 and SB-700 Speed Light.

And and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Are you using it mounted on the camera or is mounted to the trigger, not familiar with trigger tap.

Sorry looked it up and it plugs into the camera, not what I was thinking. Do you have red-eye turned on in your camera flash mode?

Three visible preflashes means you have Red Eye Reduction turned on. Turn it off.

We normally don't notice the actual preflash, it is mighty close to the actual flash. We can get a glimpse of it in the viewfinder, or we can actually see it with Rear Curtain Sync and a slow shutter speed (like 1/2 second). But three visible flashes taking about one second is Red Eye Reduction.

It was the red eye reduction. I could not find it in the menu system and how to change it is really buried. I finally found it and that took care of the problem. Thanks guys.

We can easily get into Red Eye Reduction accidentally, when setting flash compensation, by turning the wrong wheel. It shows in the top LCD though, easy to watch out for it when you realize the possibility.

It is so rare that I shoot with the flash. I am going to start playing with it more this week.
